Celebration of the legacy of Sage Agasthyar on the occasion of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0

The Embassy of India in Bamako in association with Mali Tamizh Sangam organized a celebration of the legacy of ‘Sage Agasthyar’ to mark the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0. The programme was organized at the chancery Premises on 24th February 2025. Ambassador-designate Dr. N. Nandakumar addressed the gathering. In his address he recalled the age-old bonds between Tamil Nadu and the city of Kashi, also known by its ancient name Varanasi. He said that the initiative of Kashi Tamil Sangamam was the brainchild of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to foster national unity under the framework of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’. He also explained the importance of ‘Sage Agasthyar’ not only for the people of Tamil Nadu but for entire Indian civilization and to countries which were influenced by Indian civilization. 

During the programme, members of Mali Tamizh Sangam made presentations on the contribution of ‘Sage Agasthyar’ to the Tamil language and literature. Smt. Gowri Gokulrajan delivered a speech on ‘Sangakalamum Tamil Valarchiyum’, while Shri Mohan Nagarajan presented a speech on ‘Agathiyarum Avar Tamiluku Aatriya Thondugalum’. Mr. Devadass Ramasamy performed a devotional song dedicated to ‘Sage Agasthyar’ titled ‘Agathiya Aaratthi Padal’.

Dressed as ‘Sage Agasthyar’ and other Tamil literacy personalities, children of Indian community presented colourful cultural performances. Ms. Mridula Mohan portrayed Avvaiyar, Mr. Yeshwin Mohan Raj depicted Agasthyar, and Ms. Brinda Mohan performed a dance to the song 'Shiva Sambo'.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Shri Mohan Raj, Mali Tamizh Sangam.
